Michael Showalter kept acting long after he realized he didn't want to do it anymore — mostly because he needed to eat. Showalter got his start in college doing sketch comedy as a member of The State (formerly The New Group). Fast forward roughly two decades and Showalter has found himself right where he was always meant to be. But as I grew older, it was a combination of I wasn't getting cast in things, but I also wasn't really needing to get cast in things. Is there any one moment where you realized acting wasn't what you loved doing?

Films such as “What Price Hollywood” and “A Star is Born” first dabbled in the idea of famous and non-famous relations almost 100 years ago. Now, director Michael Showalter breathes new life into the trope with “The Idea of You,” out on Amazon Prime May 2. But more than just a piece of starry-eyed fan-fiction, “The Idea of You” is a Bildungsroman in disguise. It was the first look Hathaway tried on during fittings with Demetrio in New York. As for Hathaway, we find her in Chanel and leave her, happily ever after, in a rust-red Gabriela Hearst suit.

Anne Hathaway Is Done Trying to Please

On one level, Anne Hathaway’s new movie, “The Idea of You,” which arrives on Prime Video on May 2 and is directed by Michael Showalter, couldn’t be more straightforward. It’s an adaptation of Robinne Lee’s hit romance novel about Solène, a divorced 40-year-old mom played by Hathaway, who winds up in a relationship with a much younger man — a singer in a boy band, played by Nicholas Galitzine. It’s a movie about a woman pushing against societal expectations and getting a lot of grief for it, which is something Hathaway, 41, knows about. More than a decade ago, around the time she won an Academy Award for her work in “Les Misérables,” the online commentariat turned on Hathaway for … who knows, exactly? Some strange groupthink kicked in that caused people to pile on her for seeming like an inauthentic striver — or something.

CNN —Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway has said that she had to kiss a series of actors during the audition process in the 2000s to “test for chemistry” on camera. Speaking to V Magazine in an interview published Monday, Hathaway said: “Back in the 2000s — and this did happen to me — it was considered normal to ask an actor to make out with other actors to test for chemistry. Aren’t you excited to make out with all of them?’“And I thought, ‘Is there something wrong with me?’ because I wasn’t excited. “It wasn’t a power play, no one was trying to be awful or hurt me. ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Phil Nevin will not return as the Los Angeles Angels' manager next season. Nevin was promoted to the Angels’ top job in June 2022 when Joe Maddon was fired in the middle of a 14-game losing streak. But the Angels didn’t win for him, finishing 46-60 after he took over in 2022 and going 73-89 this season for the franchise’s eighth straight losing record. Although the club didn't formally confirm it, general manager Perry Minasian is apparently staying for a fourth season with the Angels. This is the setting, after all, that transformed professional sports as few other forces ever have, synergizing team and town and making the venue the star attraction. The team has risen (though never to the World Series) and fallen (often quite far) in the decades since, and now it is cresting again. John took a seat in the home dugout one recent afternoon while the visiting Mets took batting practice, pausing now and then to greet people by name. Nearly halfway through the 2023 season, the most expensive team in Major League Baseball history is closer to last place than first. The Mets have won only five more games than the Washington Nationals, a franchise mired in a rebuild and, for the moment, the only team keeping them off the bottom of the National League East. Even Manager Buck Showalter seemed to acknowledge on Sunday that his team has limited options to turn things around. Leading the Phillies by 6-3 entering the eighth inning, the Mets endured a disastrous four-run meltdown in which they surrendered only one hit. Instead of using some of his better relievers to close out the game, Showalter, saying they had been overworked recently, turned to less-established bullpen options.

In Justin Verlander’s first start of the season, he pitched like an ace. And no, the Mets did not win. In a season in which the starting rotations of both New York teams have seemed almost cursed by injuries and ineffectiveness, that was enough to find a ray of sunshine. “You saw his stuff, so to speak, and velocity and crispness kind of get better as the game went on,” Mets Manager Buck Showalter said after the game. “I could tell he was getting after it the last inning.”
